THIS YEAR THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSICAL, WEST SIDE STORY CELEBRATES ITS 50TH BIRTHDAY.

To celebrate this momentous occasion two of the brightest stars of the classical crossover world have come together to produce an incredible new recording. With Vittorio Grigolo as Tony and Hayley Westenra as Maria, you have the glorious combination of great chemistry and beautiful music. Two young people from different backgrounds who share a passion for bringing classical music to the people, and what better way to do this than by recording one of the best loved musicals of all time West Side Story. Joining Hayley and Vittorio is Connie Fisher, star of the West End, and Will Martin the new cross over sensation as Riff.

Written by Arthur Laurents (Book), Leonard Bernstein (Music) and Stephen Sondheim (Lyrics) the story explores the hostility between two rival gangs of different backgrounds and is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Innocent young protagonist Tony, who belongs to an established local gang, the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the rival gang, the Sharks.

West Side Story has everything you could wish for, drama, passion, tragedy, and redemption. The songs are familiar and fun, and it’s a musical that it still as powerful today as it was 50 years ago.
